August 4th, 2009 Viv No comments

facarra 3The town of Ficarra will be crossing more than their fingers later tonight when the SuperEnalotto draw takes place. The Mayor Basilio Ridolfo and his colleagues have spent €115 on tickets for the draw from officials wages.  The jackpot has climbed to a staggering €116million and the town’s folk are hoping that tonights draw can put an end to their cash flow problems.

The numbers chosen are  connected to the towns Patron the Virgin Mary of  the Assumption, the Mayor believes that with her blessing it is likely they will hit the jackpot!

Should the town be that lucky the winnings are planned to be shared out between municipal projects and the rest between the town’s 2000 residents.  The odds are stacked against them with the SuperEnalotto being one of the hardest to win, however it was only in 2008 when another Sicilian  town took the jackpot so all is not lost quite yet.

The best of luck to the town of Ficarra!

Florida Man Loses $500,000 Ticket

August 4th, 2009 Viv No comments

It’s bad enough not winning but to win and then lose your ticket, how would you feel?

Well a man from Florida was ecstatic when he realised he had won a massive $500,000 on a scratch off . Louis Tolentino who owes back payments on his mortgage, maintenance and medical bills lost the ticket on his way to cash it in.

He put the ticket in his back pocket and off he went only to realise he had gone to the wrong place, he stopped to ask for directions and this is when he noticed the ticket was gone. His only hope lies in the confirmation slip he recieved when he went to the local liquor store to confirm how much he had won, the machine confirmed the amount of $500,000 and gave him a confirmation slip.

Lottery officials are now deciding whether he can cash the money with his confirmation slip although nothing has been decided yet. They are warning  people to always write their name and address on the back of their tickets and confirmed they are looking into the matter and that missing ticket cases are dealt with on a case by case basis.

Louis Tolentino in the meantime is heartbroken, he can’t eat or sleep and is hoping that lottery officials will accept the confirmation as proof, he can do nothing now but wait….
